Press Association. PALAIERSTON N„ Alarch 18. , At the Supreme Court to-day, J. F. Symons and Albert F. Brown, for having assaulted and robbed Robert Patterson, of Shannon, of ono bottle of whisky and 7s 6d, were sentenced to 2j years with hard labor. John Chalker was acquitted on a charge of robbery with violence.

NEAV PLYAIOUTH SITTINGS. Press Association. NEW PLYAIOUTH, Alarch 18. The Supreme Court criminal sittings opened to-day before Mr. Justice Edwards. Albert Hugo pleaded not guilty to false pretences by means of ’a valueless cheque at Stratford. Ho was found guilty, and sentenced to 18 months, and ordered to the liabitual offenders prison at New Plymouth, lie having a long record of previous convictions. Sandy Birch alias Brown alias Johnston pleaded not guilty to theft of a saddle, bridle, and breastplate. He -vas an old offender, and got two years’ hard labor. A. J. Stewart pleaded not guilty co a charge of common assault on Detective Boddom, and with aesaultng, with intent to commit actual bodily harm. He was found guilty and sentenced to three months’ hard labor. Leonard Copestake, a lad of 16, came up for sentence for uttering a cheque at Inglewood. On -account of bis youth he was admitted to probation for two years, and ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution in instalments.
