United Press Association—Copyright (Received March 16, 11.25 D.m.) LONDON, March 16. Mr. John Burns was bitterly attacked by Air. Alacpherson, M.P., in a speech 'at Wereston. He declared that Air. Burns’ speech had sent a thrill of disgust through the House of Commons.

Whiteloy, Government Whip, speaking at Putney, -referring to the Liberal defections in Friday’s voting, declared that a small section of tho Liberals was always in a state of semisocialism, and considered that they were entitled to run with the Liberal bare and hunt with tho Socialists’ hounds. Although wedded to Liberalism, tliey were entitled to philander and flirt with Socialism in order to better their position with their constituents, but they cannot serve God and Alammon, and if the country were to think that the Liberals were saturated or tainted with Socialism there would be a deplorable split in the party. Evidence that does support the vast bulk of moderate opinion is already accumulating-.
