. NAPIER. Tlio Public AYorks Committee resolved to recommend the Council to ask the ratepayers to sanction a loan of £40,000 to carry out the drainage extension works recommended by Air. Alidgely Taylor. AUCKLAND. In consequence of the continuous interruptions to the electric tram service, the City Council Tramways Committee have decided to take legal proceedings to ascertain whether the company liad carried out its obligations. The committee wore satisfied they could not accept tho excuses made by the company any longer. The Methodist Conference decided to cable to tho AUctorian Conference, asking them to send two accepted candidates to New Zealand for immediate appointment. The following were elected chairmen of the districts: Auckland, Rev. G. Bond; AVangamii, President (ex officio); Wellington, Re.v. W. J. Williams; Nelson, Rev. C. IT. Garland; Canterbury, Rfv. S. Lawry; Otago, Rev. W. Slade.
The Alethodist Synod adopted a iccominondation from AVangamii that ail attempt should bo made to constitute the Alaori work into a separate Synod, to deal effectively with AVest Coast Alaori work. Obituary: Rev. Father Peter Reall. aged 27 years. Arthur Charles AA'oollams, a resident of Mount Eden, aged 60, was found dead by his.daughter on the floor of his room, this morning. A. resident of Shark Bay writes to the Collector of Customs that lie found a 16ft- open boat off Kauri Point, and at the same time saw a yacht drifting on her beam' with the mainsail set,"but owing to the state of the sea he was unable to approach hCI- ' ELTTIAAI. A large two-story detached wooden building in the main street, used as a boarding-house, was found on fire at 2 o’clock this morning. There were 18 persons in the 'house, but they had time to escapo and save some effects and furniture. The fire started in the kitchen at the back oi the dower story, and would soon have licked up the building, but the water pressure* was very, good and the -seat of tho fire accessible. The flames were got under in about a quarter of •an hour. Tho house is owned byG. W. Tavlor, and occupied by J. Cossey. The insurances are: On the building, £6OO in the State; on the furniture, £l5O in the. Standard. The damage to #ie building is estimated at £2oo. NKW PLYAIOUTII. W. D.
