PECULIAR SHOOTING ACCIDENT.

DOG EXPLODES A GUN. Press -Association. CHRISTCHURCH, March 10. A rjtlier peculiar shooting accident occurred at Culvcrden on Sunday Inst, it appears that Walter Davidson, a blacksmith, accompanied by two other men, was returning homo in a gig after a day’s shooting. Davidson had a double-barrelled gun in his possession, the stock of which was resting on -tho floor of the vehicle, while the muzzle was leaning against his chest. Both barrels were fully loaded, but tho hammers were down. Previous to starting on the homeward journey, a dog, belonging to one of tho party, had been placed under the seat, but he evidently did not enjoy the drive, and made Irantic endeavors to escape. AVlir-st seeking freedom, it is thought that he must lnve nlaced one of his paws oil the hammer of the gun, and pressed it back, not far enough to cock it, but sufficiently far enough to explode tlio cartridge, for suddenly tho gun went off, and the greater portion of tlio charge entered Davidson s chest, while the remainder of the shot was scattered round his face and left ear. A doctor was summoned to attend to his injuries, and found that a small portion of tho man’s chest ha<l been blown away, but the wounds are not considered to bo of a very serious nature.
