BEE KEEPING
It will be well for those who have not yet got rid of their boxes-inves by transferring their bees to framehives, or making away with them in some way, to do so before March 15, 1908, otherwise- they will, according to tho Apiaries Act, be liable- 1o be fined £5. The object in view is to stamp cut disease, and this cannot be done unless the bees are kept in hiv.-s that can readily be examined and treated. Though every latitude will be allowed and assistance given, no d-utt, by the inspectors to those makiug an effort to comply with the Act, it mu,', not be expected that tho Act can bo ignored altogether. The inspeduts have their duties to pertrvn, and are liable to bo called to account if tl.c-se are not duly carried out, so that it behoves each individual bee-keeper to assist as far as possible in Die due observance of the Api ipcs Act. One of the results of ibe dry •’eason in most parts of the Dominion is a shortage of the honey yield. It is estimated that in tho South Island alone the return will be over fifty tons less than that of last year.
