HARBOR BOARD CHAIRMAN.
MR TOAYNLEY RE-ELECTED
The first business to come before the Harbor Board, at its meeting yes.lorday, was tho oloefcion •tlie chairman. . , The lion. Capt. Tucker said that on one or two occasions previously he thought of proposing that tho present chairman, the 'Mayor, Air J. Townley, be requested to continue in the position so long as lie was qualified. He: proposed, therefore, that their chairman he re-elected. Volumes might be said in favor of bis reappointment, -but all were well acquainted with him and it was unnecessary to say anything further. Mr J. Clark, who was absolutely of the same • opinion, fold the speaker to mention the matter tor him and say that it was the right step for tho Board to take.
Mr AA r . Siovwright expressed satisfaction at the proposal and lie had much pleasure m seconding the motion.
.Mr J. AA r . AVhinray endorsed the remarks of previous speakers. Mr I). -Hepburn also added his remarks of approval. The motion was carried unanimously. In reply, tlie Chairman thanked members for their kind expressions. Air. Siovwright and tho Hon. Captain Tucker and he had been together since the present Board was constituted. Mr Siovwright was one of tlie first appointed by the Government. He was satisfied on looking back, that the Board bad carried out works .for the advancement of the district, and the public generally owed a good deal to the work the Board bad clone, especially with the limited means -at its disposal. (Applause).
