BUSH FIRES.
RAGING ROUND AUCKLAND,
SERIOUS LOSSES OF STOCK,
Press Association. AUCKLAND, Fob 14 Reports Horn Oparan, Awaroa, and le Rauawoa show that the bush fires are stiff raginb. Settlers have .sustained heavy losses, and all still fighting the names with all the resources at their command. At To Rauamoa tho smoko was so dense that the school had to stay at school on Wednesday night. At Oparan Mr. .Mclntosh lost his house and stock, Mr. Bell his house, ami Trougliton Bros, lost their house. Settlers at Awaroa, Kiriteretere, and Marokopa are-fighting hard to save their homes. Mr. Elliott, of Oparan, loss 800 sheep, and Mr. Perham 200 sheep. Disastrous hush fires are raging in the Waingaroa district. The Waingaroa Hot Springs Hotel, also soveral settlers’ houses, had a narrow cscapo from total destruction. Much loss has been sustained by owners of stock. A number of men employed on road work are giving help to fight tlio flames. Maoris were all night fighting the fire at Waingaroa springs. The houses of Messrs W. Savijl. Gibson, and McMillan aro in great danger. A SERIOUS OUTLOOK. Press Association. FEILDING, Feb. 14. / Apiti is ringed with bush lire 6, and the settlors are having an anxious time. G. Rankin, of Table Flat, bad his residence destroyed. Gould lost 200 sheep, and Lawson and Davey several outbuildings. At Uinutoi several houses are in imminent danger. The scarcity of grass is causing widespread alarm. There has been practically no rain here since Christmas. The outlook Ls more serious than it has ever been.
