In an interview with a Daily Press reporter, the manager of tlio ETawWs Bay Sawmilling Association stated that the recent, bush fires had practically crippled the sawmilling industry in the province, and the output had fallen from an average of three and a quarter millions and three-quarter millions. It was absolutely impossible for the mills in Hawke’s Bay to supply orders on time. Five m.ills had been destroyed by fire, Colir’s (Norsewood), Parsons’ (Norsewood), Gamman (Otanga), Firburn Co. (Pohuia), and Anderson and Sons (Piripirij. Other mills suffered great loss ill tram lines arid bridges. It is • possible that £IO,OOO would be a low estimate of the loss over the province.
