ADAIR BROS.’ SALE.

AN UXPEECEDENTED SUCCESS.

A sale was commenced at the premises of Messrs. Adair Bros, yesterday morning. This old-established firm lias not- held a sale for over eight years, and under these circumstances tho public showed its confidence by turning up in great numbers. Undoubtedly yesterday’s sale was the most successful in the history oi’ softgoods in Gisborne. This was proved to an extent by the immense pile of parcels which a “Times” reporter found on the premises when ho visited the emporium late in the evening. These had all'been .made up since the shop closed at G o’clock. Front tho time the store opened at 9 o’clock until the closing hour, customers crowded tho counters like a swarm of bees. Special assistance had been engagi d beforehand, but these were insufficient, and even when more hands wore engaged, it was hard work to cope with the trade. .. The show-room department was particularly busy, and the ladies appeared to be more than satisfied, that real bargains were being submitted. There was no run on any special line, but a steady demand for all classes of goods. The clref feature of this branch was the number of blonsos and uiHli*rskirts ayli’cii woi*b sold. The trimmed millinery was marked at specially low prices, and was in great demand.

The Manchester section wis very busy, many people about- to furnish talcing advantage of the sale. A special line of job towels arrested the attention of many customers. In tho dress department tlie duel attraction was the print and muslin counter, all goods being m irked down to half-price. A line of Japanese silks also had a special run. . Undoubtedly tho busiest portion of the -shop yesterday was the tancy goods sale, tho counters being lined with people eager to participate in the bargains offered. The clothing department, _ which his had an excellent reputation for many years, did good business, gentlemen'taking advantage of tlie great reductions made in mercery lines. As it is not intended to continue the sale for a very lengthy period, the firm ask that natrons make their purchases early.
