I’d IJO PINAL INSPECTION
Yesterday Lli© final inspection of tiie main pipe lint* was coiiuuoucod. All 4 . JC Jiay was mnble to make the inspection, but his representative, Air. B. Couston, was present. The party consisted ol AJr. Couston, Air. tiignell (manager of the Wanganui Spiral Pipe Co.), who have undertaken tho main line contract, and Mr. J. To Willey (Mayor). The party proceeded up the main pipe lino as far as the Iteay station. Before they left the valve was closed at Lytton-road for tile purpose of putting all tho pressure on tho main line. Until arrival at the J.tcay station everything was found to lie satisfactory. There they found two leaks and saw one repaired. Returning, six more leaks were found. Tho principal one was in the Pipiwaka hush. This leak was rather extensive, and to repair ft will necessitate the cutting off of the water for some time to-day. Alessrs. Couston and Bignoll will go to the head works this morning to inspect tho further-out part of the works.
Air. Couston will remain in Gisborne for a good time, during which he will mako a thorough inspection of ill© works. After tho Engineer Ins formally certified to the completion of tho contract, tho contractors are required to maintain tho pipe line for a month.
