Dir. Joseph Chadwick, the wellknown sporting writer and handicappor, arrived from Auckland yesterdav, to attend to-day’s races. Dir’ T. AV. Fisher, Under-Socrct-ary for Native Affairs, who has been on’ a visit to Gisborne on departmental business, returned South last night. Dir. AValter P. Monk, touring manager for Dir. J. C. AViiliainsou’s new ALusical Comedy Company, has arrived in town to make arrangements for the coming tour of that organisation. The x>ieces to be staged are: “The Blue Moon,” “Lady Dladcap,” and “Tho Girl from Kay’s.” Mr. A. T. Ngata, M.H.11., arrived in town yesterday, having completed a ride from Rotorua to Gisborne, via. the East'Cape. He visited many settlements in the Bay of Plenty district, making enquiries into the position of Native-owned lands for tho use of tho Native Land Commission. Mr. Ngata conferred during tho afternoon with tho Hon. Jas .Car-roll on Native affairs, and loft in tho evening for Napier, accompanied by Dir. Pitt, interpreter, to attend a sitting of the Native Land Commission in connection with the AVaimarina estate. About twenty-five members of the Turauganui Fishing Club met at tho British Empire Hotel last night to bid farewell to Dir. E. Harvey Gibbon, one of tho members of tho club, who leaves this morning on a walking tour to Auckland, on Ins way to’ Sydney. A pleasant evening was spent, and several toasts were honored. During the evening Mr .J. B. Leydon, Vice-president, on behalf of members of tho club, presented Mr Gibbon with a gold sovereign case suitably inscribed. Mr Leydon spoke in felicitous terms in making the presentation, and was supported by other members, of the club, reference being made to the high esteem in which. Dir Gibbon was held bv all who knew him. Mr Gibbon replied in suitablo terms, .thanking the club for tlielr gift and good wishes.
