Although the returns are not complete, and postal votes are yet" to bo counted, it is not considered that the result will be materially altered. Present appearances show that Mr. Phi Ip has sullered defeat- at the hands of Labor in his own stronghold, Townsville. Mr. Stephens, a member of the Cabinet, was defeated at South Brisbane, while Mr. Leahy, another member, was beaten for Warrnramo, Two North Brisbane seats liavo been captured by Labor. The approximate position of parties is:—Ministerialists 20, Kidstonites 25, Labor 25. doubtful 2.
