MR. BARIGW’S MOTOR TOUR.

A PLE7 3ANT JOURNEY. NO MISHAPS TO RECORD. In the course of a letter to her son, Mrs. Barlow, who with her husband, Mr. W. J. -B -rlow, and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis and their son, are at present on a motor tour through the North Island, states that the party -were having an enjoyable trip. The letter is dated i rom Rotorua, where the party arrived on the night-of January 26th. They expected to leave on Wednesday- last tor Auckland, and as the road was very stony -and sandy, it was expected that the trip would take two days. The party would probably return to Gisborne by steamer on February Bth. “It is not,” writes Mrs. Barlow, “that we are not enjoying the trip ; but, every place we come to is so interesting that we always want t-o stay longer than we should, -and if wo motored back we should be hurried.” On the wav back from 'Wellington to Napier a night was spent at Daunevirke, where the party saw H. A. Parker, the tennis champion, playing a toiirnanient game. A night was spent at Hastings, and early next morning the party left- for Napier, tlio distance being covered in forty minutes. At Napier the benzine tank was filled, two tins -of benzine were put on the car, and a start made on the trip inland. The Tarawera Hotel was reached that night, tho party having picnicked on the way. at Pohui. An early start was made next morning, the party reaching Taupo about 10 a.m. After lunching at Taupo. the boiling springs and tlio lake were visited. Then tlie party proceeded on to the Crow’s Nest Geyser, five miles further on, which plays to a height of 100 ft. About three miles further on, the Huka Falls on the Waikato River were visited. That night was spent in a hotel fift-v miles south of Rotorua. During the rest of the journey to Rotorua the chief features of interest, were the mud volcano and rhe Rainbow Mountains. Mrs. Barlow concludes by stating that -ill tlie party were well and enjoying themselves immensely. So far they had not had one puncture, nor had any other mishap occurred.
