PALMERSTON, Jan. 30. The defence committee of the Farmers’ Union, and delegates ..from Wanganui, Hawke’s Bay, and the iVairarapa, met hero to-day. c t £lr. J. J. Wilson was in the chair, and went through the shearers’ demands and the answers to the various questions and circulars which, have been received from the various branches. Die committee considered the counter proposals, and drew up a-case for the delegates, who were then appointed to meet the shearers in conference. The original day fixed for the conference was Saturday, Ist uist., but this being unsuitable for the shearers it was decided to hold it on Tuesday. February sth.
