William Waugh, a well-known settler, was charged on remand with having wounded Constable O’Connor on December 14th, with intent to do grievous bodily harm. The constable said be warned accused twice to g° home, Jis he had been drinking. lie then decided to arrest him, when the accused, according to .the constable, drove his hand, in which he had an open knife, straight into witness abdomen. Medical evidence showed that the wound was 21 inches in length and penetrated the whole thickness of the abdominal walk It was serious, and the doctors could mt tell for twenty-four hours after O’Connor’s admission to the ho-'pituj whether he would live. The j.ccu,-.eu was committed for trial.
