DRUNKENNESS. Robert Barwick was fined' £l. with costs 2s for drunkenness, amt was also fined £5, with costs 2s, in default six weeks’ imprisonment on a charge of having procured liquor during the currency of a prohibition order against him. 0 BSCENE LANG UA GE. Neil McLeod' appeared on a charge of having used obscene language in tho Turanganui Hotel. Frederick Higgs, barman- at the Turanganui Hotel, said accused' came to the hotel about 5 p.m. on the previous day. He was under the influence of liquor. Accused asked for tea and when told he would have to wait an hour commenced making use of obscene language. Witness ordered accused out of the hotel. Accused wont to the door, but came back soon and asked for a room to lie down in. Witness said accused was not in a fit condition to be on the premises, and accused then made further obscene remarks, which could be heard by people in the street. Witness put accused out of the hotel. The S.M. said' the language was of a very disgusting nature, and had been made use of in a very loud tone. It could not be taken as an excuse that accused was under the influence of liquor. A fine of £5, with costs 2s, in defanlt 30 days’ imprisonment-,

ALLEGED FRAUDULENT CONVERSION OF FUNDS.

The case of Thos. W. Lister, charged with fraudulent conversion of funds, was mentioned. Detective Maddern said he had telegraphed to the prosecutor,, but had received no reply. A further remand was granted till January 31st, bail granted at lost hearing being renewed. JUDGMENT BY DEFAULT.

Judgment by default was given in the ease of J .and W. ißissett (Mr A. T. Coleman) v. James McCabe, for £7 19s Bd, with costs £1 3s 6d. JUDGMENT SUMMONSES. An order for immediate payment of £3 19s lOd was made in the case H-amon -and' Smith (Mr Burke v. John Colbert.

In the case Ellen Blair (Air Blair) v. William Roland- an order was made for the payment of the debt within- thirty days. CLAIM FOR WAGES.

Michael Dennehy sued Marin Segedin, billiard saloon proprietor, for one week’s wages in lieu of notice of dismissal. Mr Blair appeared for plaintiff. The plaintiff, sworn, stated that he was engaged by defendant in July last as billiard-marker .at £2 per week. Left defendant’s service on December 21st. On that day defendant paid witness and said that he could not afford to keep him on. On tho previous Tuesday, defendant said to witness that if tilings did not liven up during the next few weeks he (defendant) would have to carry on the business himself. Asked defendant about notice and he said he regarded Tuesday’s conversation as sufficient notice. While employed by defendant witness carried on liis duties properly and defendant never made any complaint. The. usual practice was to give a week’s notice dr a week’s wages. By defendant: Was not absent from tho billiard room without leave during May. Defendant said that in September last year plaintiff began to get lazy. On December 14th intended to give plaintiff was entitled to a week’s Gave him notice on the following Monday. Said that after the- following Saturday he (witness) would carry cm the business himself. The S.M. said it was clear that plaintiff notice, but failed to d > so. notice and it was -also clear that lie had not got -it. Judgment would be for plaintiff for £2. with costs £1 12s.
