DRUNKENNESS.
A first offender was fined os with costs 2s.
James Fuller, three times previously convicted within the past six months, was sentenced to six weeks’ imprisonment with hard labor. A prohibition order was also issued against Fuller. ALLEGED ASSAULT ON A CHINAMAN. Robert Charles Brown was brought forward on a charge of having assaulted Ghing Poo with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm . Detective Maddern yisked' a remand as the Chinaman had taken a turn for the worse and was unable to appear. Mr Stock, for accused, offered no objection, and a remand was granted till Januarv 27th, bail being fixed at £2OO. ALLEGED FRAUDULENT CONVERSION OF FUNDS. . Thos. W. Lister appeared on a charge of having converted to his own use £27 in money received by him on behalf of Geo. Lester Burton. Dotective Maddern said that though the offence was alleged to have been committed in- Gisborne, the information was laid in Palmerston North. He knew very 'little about the case and asked for a remand to Palmerston. . Mr Stock, for accused, asked that the case be tried in Gis,bornc. All the witnesses were in Gisborne and it would bo a great expense to send them all to Palmerston. The S.M. said it would be<ibsunl to try the case in Painters ton. He would rema JJygZcase until the folio wing. ■4av'-'to enable the police to mako-'-enquiries. Bail was fixed at £3O. PROHIBITION ORDER. A prohibition order against a town resident was granted.
