Sonic good racing was wit-iKi-sed, and tile Wellington Stakes produced a good contest between Fleet foot and Armlet. Tho Manamatu-owned. Tnngimoana won the Racing Club’s Handicap fairly comfortably. Kurawaka ami Go Merest- led for a mile, where the first-named was beaten. Goldcrest led into the straight, where iSir Tristram and Tanginioana joined in. The latter came away at the distance and won by three lengths, Goldcrest a length and -a half away. Time, 2min 7 4-osoc.

Carroll Memorial Hanclicap.—Sandstream 1, Commander 2, Banker 3. AA r on by a length. Time linn 51sec. Electric Handicap—Lady Crespin 1, Turquet 2, Mura Alii 3. AYon by a neck. Time,-lmin 4 3-ssec. The first day of tho summer meeting commenced to-day. Tho weather was Hot and oppressive, with a high wind. - Tho attendance was large. Nine bookmakers wore licensed at £ls each. Notwithstanding this tho tote returns were good, the total put through the machine for the day - being £3601, as against £3135 for the same day last year. The racing on the whole was interesting, and there were several close finishes. Appended arc tho results:—
Croydon Handicap, 45 sovs, 7 furlongs.—Office Girl 8.5 1, Luresome 8.5 2, Hypnotist 7.9 3. Abusive 8.5 and Tatagarehu 7.7 also started. Won by a length. Time, lmin 31 3-ssee. Longford Hack Handicap, 30 sovs, 6 furlongs.—Derwent 9.0,1, Lady Ronald 10.5 2, Mastono 9.3 3. Also started :Turret 9.7 and All Colors 8.0. Time, lmin 18 2-ssec.
Gore Cup, 90 sovs, 1J miles: Speculate 7.4 I, Jack Ashore 7.12 2, Notes 8.1 3. Also started: Astrakhan 8.13, Rosebloni 8.4, Red and Black 7.13. A splendid race; Speculate beating Jack Ashore by a short half length, with Notes a good third. Time, 2min 11 3-ssee.
