WIN THEIR TEST .MATCH

SYDNEY, Jan. 22

A test match between Auckland bowlers and a team representing the New South AY ales Association was played at Balmain to-day in fine cool weather, it was a four-rink game. The local players bail slightly tho best of the first, ten heads, and then t lie visiting rinks began to' assort themselves, although it was not until ihe 20th head that they did so,, when the second rink, skipped by Laurie, got a leacl. When all but the first rink had finished the scores stood: Auckland 72, New South AVales 70. Attention then centred on Harrison’s rink, and excitement rail high as to whether they could maintain the advantage gained. It was neck-and-neck, at first the visitors and then the locals were a point down. When tho last head was entered Harrison was one behind ; ho had an admirable opponent in Strong, but tho Aucklander’s coolness won him the game. The following are the scores:— Aliller. Mclntosh, Coutts. Harrison 24 : Tavlor, Sutton, Bromwich, Strong •23. AYooller, Young. Hudson. Rankin 23; Chapman, Hind, Harris, Moses 23. Sehaeur, Carlow;, Laurie 19; C’lapiti. Bennie. Francis. Carrie 33. MacCullum, Shehlricli, Kusalis, Handcock 28; Grotli, Denyer, Ross, Reeder 14. _ Total—Auckland 94; New South Wales 93. The victory was loudly cheered.

THE SOUTHERN TOURNAMENT.

Press Association. DUNEDIN, Jan. 22. The New Zealand bowling tournament was continued in fine weather. Four rounds of the singles championship were played to-day, and the final will be played to-morrow. The players now left in, the competition are: Short (Dunedin), Saunders (Kaituna), Goldstone (AVaimate), Carswell (Green Island), Jacobsen (St. Kilda), Lindsay (Green Island), Johnstone (St. Albans), Mcllwrick (Dunedin), AVoolf (United), Barry (Victoria), Fruist (Balclutha), Christie (Taieri), AA Brown (Kaitangata), AYrlson (North End). The fifth round in tho rinks tournament was also played to-day.
