ATHLETICS.
RAKAUROA SPORTS. On New Year’s Day the 'annua: sports meeting was held at Rakanroa, on Mr. J. J. hanger's property. The mooting, which proved an unparalleled success, was attended by a large number of outside visitors, besides the local residents. In the competitions, which were very keenly contested, the best competitor was undoubtedly Harold Edmunds, a local athlete. Edmunds gained three firsts and a second, winning comfortably in the hop, step, and jump (38ft 3in), 2‘2oyds hurdles, and dividing the honors with C. Smith (handicap of Tin) in the high jump. Another notable runner was J. Morrow, with one first and two seconds; also AY. McDonald, two firsts and one second. Maiden race: J. Morrow, 1; Lee, 2. Hop, step, and iump: 11.
