Germany, Russia, and Sweden are ■arranging for the virtual neutralisation of the Gulfs of Bothnia and Finland. It is hinted that Germany thereby not only closes the Baltic ■against belligerent warships, but also begins to establish a new triple alliance. Denmark protests against not being consulted in the matter.
BURGLARY AT INVERCARGILL

INVERCARGILL, Jan. 10
Tho offices of Messrs. IV. T. .Murray and Co. were burglariously entered last- night. Mr. Hoyles, the secretary of 'the company, locked up at- 0 o’clock, and this morning two windows were found broken and the place ransacked, but no valuables were secured.
