ROWING.

The semi-finals of tho Harris Fours (Poverty Bay Club) were rowed last night. * The first raco was between W. AlcGulfio, W, Jame 6, F. E. Porter and T. McConnell, and J. Webb, E. Roche, C. AVintor and D. Murray, A brilliant race resulted, both crows appearing to be on perfectly even terms down the course, but towards the finish AlcGulfio rallied his men and the crew responded with strong, quick and sure strokes, winning by half a length. In tho second raco R, Jones, AV. Barnes, A. Briscoe, and A. Lyford, met J. Nicholas, C. Clark, C. Orr and A\ T . H. Davy. This was a good race, although Nicholas’s crew was clearly out-classed. At Dr. Williams’ the crows were well together, Jones being in tho lead by about three-quarters of a length. Nicholas’s crew, however, was rowing very unevenly. No 2 especially splashing a great deal ill feathering. The positions were very much" the same passing under the bridge, but here Nicholas called for weight and bis crew responded well, but though (,’ncv drew up momentarily, Jones lengthened out and holding his opponents safe, won by about a length.
