The ordinary monthly parade of tho East Cape Mounted Rifles was held at' the Drillshed last night, about thirty members being present. Captain Tombleson instructed the men in semaphore signalling, and afterwards gave an instruction lesson in field map-drawing, as taught in tho military schools at Home. Lessoiio. in semaphore signalling are to be continued at tho monthly parades until the whole of tho members of tho corps are proficient. The Officer Commanding the District, Colonel Bauchop, is to visit Gisbovno next week and will commence- a class of instruction for nou-coms on Tuesday next. The names of those ‘willing to go to the Easter manoeuvres in Welling? ton were taken at last night’s parade, and it is expected that sufficient names will be got to enable the corps to be represented.

Lieut. Hamilton in organising a series of fortnightly lectures to be given to the town troops, the first d which will bo given on Friday by Sergeant Spraggon “Discipline.” The ’ecture will bo followed by one by Surgeon-Captain Scott on “First. Aid,” and if it is possible the Government Veterinarian will bo asked to deliver a lecture on tho care of horses. The lectures are to be continued throughout the year.
