A BUSY DEPARTMENT. CONSOLIDATED STATUTES. (Special to Times.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 13. Mr Mackuy, xho Government Printer, states that although 550 hands are employed in the works, more aro wanted, especially _ girls. The want of accommodation is also causing inconvenience. Work has to be done both day and night owing to want of space and this must continue until provision has been made for more floor space to carry additional machinery and to houso more work people. It is proposed to equip every machine with its individual motor. Several aro already' installed. The output oi the Printing Offico is now equal to tons of reading matter. Over a hundred million postage stamps were printed last year and nearly a million and a quarter postal notes. The most important work now being done is tho printing of the Consolidated Statutes. The new statutes will run into 3000 pages and the collection will he ready by next session of Parliament. The work is a very extensive one embracing the “live” statute law of the Dominion. At present the law is contained in 49 volumes, several of which are out of print The new volumes will contain all public statutes now in force and 'vjll probably be bound up in four or five volumes. *
