Iho Californian Appellate Court’s decision discharging Schmidt and lleufl created an intense and most painiul sensation. The Court declares inter alia that blackmailing a saloon proprietor is no crime since there was grave doubts as to whether a license is property.

CONVICTION ANNULLED ON TECHNICALITIES.

The Times San Francisco correspondent, referring to the release of Schmidt and Reuff, says there were many other indictments against them, but the chances are that both would obtain their liberty. Schmidt’s recent conviction was annulled on pure technicalities. The whole campaign of the prosecution was in danger of collapsing.
