WELLINGTON, Jan. 9. A meeting of representatives of the Lower Hutt and Petone Boroughs. also residents of the Hutt Valley, was held this evening to consider the prospects of installing a system of electric traction- and lighting to serve the Hutt Valley, A proposal was submitted to the meeting, estimating the cost of the joint scheme at £BO,OOO, and providing tor sinking fund and contingencies. An offer ,was m-ade by -a number of gentlemen interested in the district that if the scheme as outlined wore undertaken by the corporations interested they would be prepared to guarantee up to £20,000 to provide for any loss’ incurred during the operations of the first 10 years. After the matter had been discussed the meeting decided to refer the proposal to a joint committee, with power to obtain expert -advice, and to report to a subsequent meeting to be held within three weeks’ time.
