WELLINGTON GOSSIP
(Special to Times. AVELLINGTON, January 9. Mr. Henry Briicy, director of the AViliiamSan ' Opera' Company, celebrated bis birthday yesterday, and received :: presentation from the company and' members of tho staff. A “retreat” for lady adherents of the Roman Catholic ' Church will commence at the Convent of the Misters of the Sacred Heart at Island Bay on Saturday next. The retreat will extend over one week, and the whole of the time will bo spent- in spiritual exercises. Amongst those who will participate are some ladies from the South Island. Dr. Bell, director of tho Gcologicil Survey, has left for tho Kara - mea district. Later on he will visit Gisborne for the purpose of preparing a report on the oil-hearing fields said to exist there. The preliminary work will bo carried out by Mr. J. H. Adams, Assistant Geologist. Air. Alfred Hill lias returned to Wellington, and will form an orchestra lic>re with a view to giving public performances. Afr. J. H. B. Contes, general manager of tho National Bank of N.Z., has returned from a holiday visit to Auckland. Air. Scott, inspector for tlio same bank, will now take a holiday at Rotorua.
