Referring to Ibe statement that there is a tremendous falling off in the output of hemp from tin* Auckland province, Mr. Johnson, Governmen grader, informed a Star representative that the output from the Auckland province grading stores for 1907 was far above the average, and totalled 47,750 bales, weighting 8500 tons, and worth approximately £220.000. The output of tow was 2000 lons, worth approximately £12,000. bringing the total value up to £233,000. On these figures Auckland province is turning out one-third of the total yearly hemp output of the Dominion. Interviewed, Air. Shanaghan, inspector of the Auckland labor bureau, said tho past year had been highly satisfactory from every point of view. In almost every trado there had been a steady demand, and in. the building trade there existed wonderful activity. Referring to unskilled labor, Air. Slianaghan said that tho demand was far in excess of the supply, and throughout the year there had been a steady call on the labor market for all conditions of workers. At- tl.o sale of Air. J.
