CRIME IN GISBORNE.
A 'STEADY INCREASE,
A return i>f t.lir. crime in Gisborne flaring 11)07 shows that altogether 001 offences were reported, as against 570 ill 1000. Of these 525 males and 12 remains were .summarily dealt with, sixteen were committed for trial (one being discharged) and OS were discharged. The number of eases of drunkenness reported was ;«)(), a slight increase over 1900. Breaches of the Incensing Act. numbered 00, as against. 39 in 1900. Twenty-two arrests for t.hclt were made and 10 convictions were recorded. Thirty assaults (common) were reported, and 23 convictions were recorded. Twenty-one eases of bnrglarly, breaking into shops, dwellings, etc wort' reported, an increase of 14, and cases of obstructing and resisting the police increased from 3 to 8. Decreases were reOCPded as follows: Ban'kniptcy offences, 9 to nil ; disorderly and riotous conduct, 10 to 5; illegally on promises, (i to 2; malicious injury of property, 9 to 8.
