CAMPERS' MATCH. At tlio Molo-in-the-Wall on Now Year’s Day a gunio was played between teams representing the Hole-in-tho-Wall camp and Cox’s camp. Following their usual custom, the cricket club connected with the firm of Messrs. Common, Shelton, and Co. drcpitched a team to the Reay station to plav the annual New Tear fixture with tlio Waingalco Club. Two drags left town at 8.130 containing the team, some dozen lady members of the staff, and others, and it is onlv necessary to state that the teams were from the stables of Messrs, liedstone and Son to prove that the trip was done in good time, two hours and ten minutes from the time of starting being sufficient to land the whole party on the convincing ground at Waihgake. The country en route was looking at its best, and the drive out proved most enjoyable. On arrival at the ground a stirt was made with the match, at about 11.30. R. Coop, who captained the country team, won tho toss from B. C. Baxter, C. S. and Co.’s skipper, and decided to bat. The wicket was of a rath: r fiery order, being matting laid down on an open paddock. The howling of Baxter (G for 7 runs) and Brown (4 for 29) proved sufficient to dispose of the Waingako eleven in the first innings for 43 runs. Shooters were frequent, and it was only necessary for the bowlers to keep a good length in order to got wickets. On C. s. and Co.’s team going to tlio wickets they realised that on such a wicket the only way to make runs was to go at the bowling in resolute fashion, and they succeeded in totalling 121 in their initial essay. TV. Gibson was the principal contributor, with a score of 56. Ho took every risk, and banged out lustily throughout Ids innings. The howling of Reynolds and R. Coop was of a high order, and runs were most difficult to got on tlio treacherous wicket. Waingnke did bettor in their second innings, oiid totalled 92. This left C. B. and Co. with 16 to get to win. The country team played up with spirit, and six wickets were down for 22 when stumps were drawn at 6 o’clock. The town players were most hospitably entertained at luncheon and afternoon tea by the Waingake Club, Mesdames Dennis and D. J. Parker nul the Misses Crawford (2) being most assiduous in their attention to the wants of the visitors. There was quite a large attendance of spectators on the picturesque Reay ground, tlieie being a pleasing proportion of ladies present. At the conclusion of the match, Mr. R. Coop, the Waingakc captain, in a few well-eliosen words, expressed the hope that the fixture would be an annual one, and called for cheers for the town players, which were heartily responded to. After a most delightful day the town players arrived back in town at 8.30, thoroughly pleased with their trip to the Reiy station. Tlio following were the scores:
