COOPER’S OPERASCOPE, Cooper’s Operascope Company opened their Gisborne season at His Majesty’s Theatre last evening, when there was a large attendance. The principal film shown was a representation of Gilbert and -Sullivan’s wellknown opera comique “The Mikado,’' the music being clearly given- by a phonograph. This film was exceptionally good and the high coloring very noticeable, and a very effective representation of the well-known opera was the result, evoking the decided approval of the audience. The films were very clear, and there was an entire absence of flicker. A very pretty and instructive picture was “Scenes in -Japan,” in which boats and timber rafts' are followed down a mountain torrent and through some very fine scenery. Other pictures shown were: “His First Bike Ride,” “The Lion Tamer,” “A Modern Diogenes,” and “Liquid Electricity.” In the second part, “Alice in AA’onderland” was run off. This w-as a very good film, and was attentively watched. The performance concluded with a farce entitled “Two of a Kind” (Miss Fisher and Mr. AAulson), in which Miss Fisher sang “Ballooning,” -and together they sang “Just Take Me Back to Wonderland.” Miss Fisher -also gave a good rendering of the song “Dreaming.” The management announce a complete change of programme for the matinee this afternoon at 2.30 and the performance this evening, except for three items.
