On Sunday afternoon, by special request, tho Salvation Arniv Band will pay another visit to the ‘Hospital.

A picnic will be held at AYainui on New Year’s Day under the auspices of the Salvation Army, the first conveyances leaving tho Barracks at 9.15 a.m.

Tho outlook for the AYharekopae settlers is stated to very good. They have been well treated in the matter of rain and there is an abundance of good pasture.

The next performance by the Cook County Curious Coons, which will be given in aid of the City Band, is to be given in the Theatre'on Thursday, 26th -March, 1908.

Unusual incidents seem to have followed in quick succession at Tolaga lately. First there was the accident to Mr. Cannon, secondly the death of Air. C. A. Nield, and lastlv the stranding of the Ariki.

To-night the Salvation Army Baud will render a special programme in Gladstone-road, afterwards rendering carols at those places missed on Christmas Eve. A watch-night service will be held at the Barracks at 11.3(1 p.m.

Dr. Vaiintine, Inspector-General of Hospitals, is to visit Gisborne and personally inquire into the complaint made against the Hospital by Mr. Jam O’Dowd, before he. decides whether or not an‘ inquiry into the complaint is necessary.

More excessive heat was experienced in town yesterday, and the smoke from bush fires in the country districts added to tho discomfort felt. The thermometer registered 90deg. at 1 o’clock, and continued high until well on in the afternoon.

The quarterly mooting of the Leva! Gisborne Lodge, M. U. 1.0.0. F. was held last evening, when Bro. W.’ Cox ,VG., presided, over a . fair attendance. The quarterly meeting of the Aleiliochst Church was hold last evening. Air. A. openco was appointed lav representative to the annual conference to be held at Auckland shortly, and Air. C. Hawkins was elected as substitute. A vote of thanks 'was accorded the Ladies’ Guild for their £'*t of £lO, part of the proceeds of the Christmas Tree, to the circuit funds.

At a meeting held last night the Cook County Curious Coons decided to visit a. number of residents tonight (Xew Year’s Eve) with the full strength or the company and orchestra, the first call to be made at the residence of the Mayor, Mr. J. About three liimdred people attended the concert given at the TraRotunda last night hy the ,Salv'{ition Army Band. The hand played for about ail hour and a half, rendering a good programme of marches and selections, under the baton of Baudm mter Nicholas. At the close of the concert Adjutant Dickens returned thanks for the liberal collection taken up on behalf of the band hinds, and announced that it was hoped at an early date to arrange a series of similar concerts.

Mr. A. (Richardson was yesterday brought in to Mrs. Harney’s private* hospital, suffering from a fractured hip. sustained some three weeks ago. AVhile mounting a young horse it I arewa, it bounded forward while Mr. Richardson had only one leg iiciok's it. and be was thrown over the •side of the road, fracturing his hip. It was thought at first that it was only a strain, but Air. Messrs Connolly Brothers alto made a favorable chow, and these displays, together with the show made at the Native Store, tended to give the township n real Christmas appearance.
