HULL V. NEW ZEALAND.

(Received Dec. 26. 7.20 p.m.) SYDNEY. Dec. 25,

Regarding the Hull match the Daily Telegraph says: The New Zealanders managed to beat Hull by a margin of five points. Their form showed slight- improvement, in a game which was exceedingly fast, but as far as can be judged the colonials are not strong enough to tackle successfully a combined Northern Union side. Wynyard scored a clever try soon after the commencement, Messenger landing the goal. The home forwards, however, frequently' gained possession and scored twice before •Jho interval. Meanwhile, however, Wynyard and Messenger had added further tries for the All who led at the interval by thirteen to five. Immediately after the change a bad blunder ■on the part of the home backs allowed the colonials to go further ahead, Todd going over, Messenger placing the goal. In the closing stages Hull attacked strongjy, and gradually’ gained the upperhand, and secured a couple of triesv. The Chronicle says:—There was nodoubt about the determination of the New Zealanders. The fact of two previous defeats roused them to a sense of the responsibility that they had not shown the form which they* had been credited in certain matches: which was duo to changes. The-, opening stages of the game were remai'kablo for the splendid football exhibited by both sides. There was; vigor in the attack and stubbornness in tho defence, and while Hull showed fine form in passing among tho three-quarters the New Zealanders were conspicuous for their short dribbling and short transfers by all sections of tlio team. Hull came again towards the close, attacking with remarkable energy, but their effort Was too late.
