MANGAPAPA SCHOOL
DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES. The annual distribution of xirizes was held yesterday in the school grounds. Air. AI. McLeod, chairman of the School Committee, presided, and in a few remarks introduced the Hon. Captain Tucker, who presented the prizes to the successful winners. Captain Tucker, in a short speech, stated that the large number of prizes to be distributed reflected credit, not alone to tho recipients, luit to the school itself. Reference was also made by Captain Tucker to the lack of necessary accommodation in the school, and he promised that he would do anything in his jiower to help in the direction, of getting it increased. A number of special prizes were awarded, in addition to tho ordinary prizes, inclining prizes for sewing, presented by Airs. Thomas, teacher of dressmaking at tho Technical School. Air. AY. Lissant Ciaj ton also presented two prizes for the best all-round girl and boy in, the school, to' be awarded for proficiency, conduct, and popularity. These were awarded to Hilda Goldsmith and Robert Douglas. At tile conclusion of the distribution, Air. R. Cole made a presentation oif behalf of the ckihlren to Aliss Morgan and Air. Tawliiri, who are severing their connection with the school, and in doing so referred to the loss that would be sustained in losing their services. Air. AlcLeod added his tribute to the popularity of Aliss Alorgan, and the esteem in which she was held, on behalf of ..the members of the committee. .Air. AlcLeod presented Alisa Morgan with a handsome gold bangle, and expressed the desire to see Aiiss Alorgan, back again some, day. Alt’. Goldsmith also addressed the meeting, and heartily endorsed the sentiments of tho chairman with regard to Aliss 'Alorgan. Air. \V. Lissant Clayton returned thanks on behalf of Aliss Alorgan for the gifts which had been presented to her, and in doing so referred to tho apathy of the Education Deiiartment. in not providing the necessary accommodation. Aliss Alorgan had, continued Air. Clayton, retained the love and affection of her pupils despite the fact of her having to maintain discipline amongst them'. Air. Rawhiri thanks for his gift from the pupils. Air. Colo read tlie result of tile examinations, and proposed that cheers bo given for the Committee for presenting the prizes, and for the Chairman for the use of the grounds on the occasion ot tho moonlight concert. The gathering concluded with cheers for the lion. Captain Tucker, Air. Clayton, Air. Cole, tho two departing teachers, and the Press rexiresentatives livesenl.
