Special to Times. AVELLINGTON, Dec. 16. It- is expected that Al-r A. lOrabbc, formerly in tho New Zealand Veterinary Department, but -now engaged in private practice in England, mill be -appointed to control- -the new system of meat inspection, which our Government -proposes to inaugurate in. London. From all accounts Mr Crnbbe would bo ail excellent man for the position. News has been received from England that Air D. M. Ross, who has already distinguished himself as a. writer of short stories -and- verse in New Zealand and Australia, has hail a volume of poetry accepted -by a well-known London publisher. The book, entitled “The Promise of the Star,” -is expected in New Zealand shortly. . There are several changes in the magistracy pending. AI-r. Cruickshank is to go to Invercargill from -Gore and Air -Cutten will temporarily be transferred to Hamilton. Mr Hutchinson will p rob ably take tlie Timaru' district.
