TECHNICAL EDUCATION.

THE DRESSMAKING CLASSES. Tho exhibition of dressmaking which was hold, at tlio r School yesterday afternoon was confined to the Gisborne school, the work of the otbcjr schools being -sent on to them, and it is to bo hoped that exhibitions willl be held in tho schools participating. ' The productions of tho half year’s work wero displayed on two tables in the room allotted to the class in thoTeclmicalSchool, and .were open for public inspection from 2 till 5 o’clock. The wort looked very creditable, and evoked well deserved commendation. Tho variety of the work done is worthy of mention, and some very useful! and wearable garmeats wore l on view, 'reflecting the greatest credit on the instructress, Mrs Thomas*, and speaking volumes for the patience and industry of tho learners. This year, full dresses have been completed, but last year only a blouse, and the previous year only a slcirt, were finished, and tlie work was exceedingly well done, the instructress said, especially by the 6th standard, and tho High School girls, and the sth standard aflso. Classes from the eountry‘'schools are taken on dil-fe-rent days, each class being given two hours' a week. In all there are about 250 members in attendance. Mrs. Thomas leaves to-night for Napier, and sho will take up the classes between that place -and AYoodyille. The classes will resume next July. THE AVOODAVORK CLASSES. Under Mr iH. J. Levy, tlie instructor in woodwork, excellent progress has ben made, and a large number of articles, useful and ornamental, have been turned out. The articles are well finished, and reflect credit on the boys and their instructor.
