FURIOUS MOTOR-DRIVING.
AIOTORiISTS’ VIEAVS ON THE AIATTER. The-re are two sides to every question ; and the owner of a- motor-car called at the “Times” office last night to make a. statement in reply to that recently made in these columns by a -gentleman -who had a narrow esoivo© from a* serious acoi--dent as the 'result of furious driving round -a- eoriier on the part of a motorist. ...
“I am speaking,” said the motor-car-owner, “as the spokesman of the majority of the motor-car owners in town. ’ Your recent interview nia.le it appear as if the whole of the motor owners were a desperate set of cold-blooded assassins, watching for c-pport uni ties to -run down unoffending citizens. The gentleman who saw you was probably excited as the result of Iris narrow escape, and he seems to have judged the rest of the car-owners on the basis of the gentleman who he says nearly ran h ; m down. As a matter of fact, the majority of car-drivers in the town ■are extremely careful; and I feel sure that if the gentleman who* made the complaint were to set a watch on all the cars ho would very seldom see any breach of the by-law. Of course there are black sheep in every flock, and I suppose there are black sheep, so to speak, in the ranks of local carowners, who will drive furiously . along town roads and whiz round corners. One car-driver told me that recently he was passed on a country road by a car going, at a furious pace, and lie had to pull up his own cir because the clouds of dust- raised made it- difficult for him to be stfre lie was steering properly. I wish this statement to be published, as I consider that the gentleman who previously interviewed you did nn injustice to the large number of careful and considerate drivers in the town.” COUNTY COUNCIL COMPLAINS. I THREATENS ACTION AGAINST MOTORISTS. \ Press Association. ) PALMERSTON N-, Dec. 10. Complaint having been received of reckless driving by motorists, the Kaiiranga County Council passed a resolution ,io take action against motorists driving at an excessive speed on its country roads.
