Mr. W. S. Eurby, ' Inspector of Telegraphs, who has been on a short visit to Gisborne in connection with the erection of telegraph lines to Motu and Wliarerata, leaves for couth this evening. Mr. T. L. Roberts, who was lately manager for W. K. Chambers’ Ropongaere station, bad contemplated leaving to-day for a trip to the Old Country, but having been urgently asked to take charge of the Windsor Park estate, Oamaru, owing to' tho health of the manager having broken down, Mr. Roberts has deferred his visit to England, and leaves to-day on route for Oamaru. Dr. De Clive Lowe, who has been oil a short visit to Gisborne, returns to Auckland to-day. Staff Sergeant-Major Burr is to arrive from Napier for the purpose of inspecting the cadets and the East Coast Mounted Rifles.
Dr. Mason, Chief Health Officer, Dr. Pomare, Native Health Officer, md Dr. De Lisle, District Health Officer, are booked as passengers for Gisborne from Napier by tho Waikare, arriving this morning. They are coining up for. tihe purpose of making an inspection of the co-st. townships. At St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church last'night Mr. Jaimes Rattray, home missionary at Morere, ■and Mr. A. Heffernan, recently appointed to Maori mission work, were ordained to tllie eldership. The Rev. W. Grant, with whom were associated the elders of the parish, performed the ceremony. Our Wellington correspondentwires :—Mr. E. G. Darrington, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Port Chalmers, has been appointed to succeed Mr. J. F. White as manager of the bank’s branch at Hokitika. Mr. White lias resigned to go .into business for himself. Mr. G. W. J. Donald, assistant accountant at Christchurch, has been promoted to bo manager '<of the Port Chalmers, branch, and Mr. A. McLellan, of the Christchurch staff, becomes assistant accountant there.
