AN EASY WIN LOU THE visitors. . At tin, Haiti courts on Saturday representatives of tho Whataupoko Club defeated ‘those of tho Gisborne Club by I 0» games to 139. Tlio result was .something of a surprise., as it was generally supposed that the older club's team would win by a failmargin.' However, at the last moment. three of the Gisborne Club’s leading lady players notified that they were unable to bo present, and their loss, together with the necessity for making up new teams for the combined doubles was undoubtedly a factor in the result. Still, the Whataupoko representatives played so well that they would probably have won in any case, and showed a high average of play. Many of the matches'provided exciting contrasts, and, thi;/u>riiuiwt*of JJje.duy were eagerly watt-lied by members of' both clubs, who assembled in large numbers. Tables were set out on the croquet .lawn, and the following ladies dispensed afternoon tea: Mesdames Murray and T. A. Coleliian. Misses L. Coleman, Boylan, A. Do Lautour, 'Murray, ’ and Clirisp. There was no lack of umpires, and the players keenly appreciated - the assistance received in this direction. Those who officiated'were Messrs. T. A. Coleman, C. C. 'lbubv, D. Cowan, G. W.
