A FILIBUSTERING EXPEDITION.
AIDED BY BP-ITISHERS AND AMERICANS. ATTEMPT TO OVERTHROW BRAZILIAN STATE FAILS. United Press Association—Copyright LONDON, Dec. 2. The Daily’ Mail’s Rio Janeiro correspondent says that an attempt to overthrow the Government of Minas Geraes. under the leadership of a Magali native, of Rio Grande, named Edosul, aided by British, Canadian. and American filibustered, failed, after a premature skirmish in the State of Baliia, wherein Philip Davies, a retired British major, was killed, and Lieutenant George Gordon was wounded. All were captured. A sum of £IOO,OOO had been ’-Used in London and New York for tlie expedition, and the filibustered landed separately as traders. [Minas Geraes is a State of Brazil, lying north of Rio Janiero, with anarea of 221,945 square miles. Thepopulation a few years ago was--3.500.000. The capital since 189 L has been Alinas, or Bello Hrizonte.]
