Tlio Cliief Postmaster lias received oho- appended telegram from tlie postmaster at Takaka, who is in telephonic communication with the lighthouse at Farewell Spit:-—-“A motor yacht left Collingwood lor Farewell Spit lighthouse at 5 a.m. yesterday, with 18 passengers and crew aboard; including Mr. Bean, postmaster at Collingwoqd, his son, and cadet Robins, some intending to land at the lighthouso and the rest to go fishing. Went aground at the lighthouse. (This part of the telegram is riot clear.) At 11 p.m. they went aboard her. She was at anchor at 8 this morning, hut at 9 a.m. the Farewell Spit lighthouse-keeper looked for her and could not seen any sign of her whereabouts. It is blowing a heavy gale from the northward at the Spit.” Orders have been sent to the Takaka postmaster to take chargo at Collingwood, and if tliero are no further developments by to-night Mr. Scun, chief.postmaster, and two officials will go there. The motor launch has been either swamped or driven out to sea. It is hoped, sho may be sheltered somewhere, but there is rrrave anxiety for her fate. ALL SAFE. Later.. A later telegram from tlio postmaster at Takaka says: : “Tlio yacht Mapu with all passengers aboard has hist arrived’ at Collingwood.” Tlio safety of all concerned is thus assured.

In 1906.-7 the tonnage ot steamers averaged 2,681,539, an increase of 260,122 tons over the figures. for- the year 1905-6. Iho tonnage of sailers was 27,080, being a decrease of 12,43.5 tons. .1 lie tonnage of goods inward during 19'Jo-, showed an increase of 40,604 tons. 'lncreases came fiom the following heads inwards: —Foreign, l<.6S<i tons, or .123 .war cent.: colonial and coastal, 6992 tons, or 4.4 per cent.: truishipment, 15,933 Hons, or 16.4 per cent. 11l the foreign shipments outwards there is an increase of 10,9,82 tons, or 8.8 per cent. Alool shows a decrease this year. There were 129,666 hales shipped, against 133,762 bales for the preceding 12 months. Hemp totalled. Si. Sol) hales this year,, an increase or 400,j bales.
