A meeting of tho Outer Harbo-r Committee will bo held this evening. The Hospital Trustees decided on Wednesday night to approach the Inspector-General of Hospitals on his n exit visit to Gisborne on tliequestion of removing the Hospital from its present position.
‘The East Coast Railway League Committee meet at the Council Chambers on Monday afternoon, when a full attendance of members is requested. Business of an important nature is to be dealt with.
It has been decided by the Hospital Trustees to communicate with Dr Valentine (Inspector-General of Hospitals) with a view to getting a gentleman to fill the position at the Hospital whibli will be vacated by Dr Brett at an early date.
■ The committee *of tho A. and P. Association at its last meeting considered the protest of Mr. W. D. Lysnar, who competed in the class for pair of buggy horses at the re-cent-Show. It was decided that the decision of the judges be upheld. The Cook .County Curious Coons held a very successful rehearsal last night, everything going with a fine swing. The full orchestra was in attendance, and the conductor took the opportunity of complimenting members on the great advance made.
There was only one creditor present at tho public examination of Martha Millard; held at the office of the Official Assignee. The amount owing to unsecured creditors was shown as £49 6s and the only asset was furniture valued at £6. Bankrupt- could make no offer. A witness at the SjAI. Court yesterday made a somewhat amusing slip of the tongue. She intended to say “about the 2nd or 3rd of the month,” but she managed -to- say between the 2nd and 3rd; and pedantic persons are asking whether the time would be called 0.0 o’clock, whether it would be a.m. or p.m., and what day it would be.
Recently' a party while picnicking in the Ruahine range came across a spot where the rare umbrella fern was growing in great profusion. Several plants were taken to Napier, but they failed to grow, the fern living only ill high altitudes. An effort is being made to get the Government to proclaim the spot a scenic reserve.

At a recent meeting of the Fa-re Brigade the following recommendations wc-ro drawn up for presenilation to the Borough Council': —“That an extra 500 feet of tire best, hose be provided as early as possible; that a reel house be erected at the Old Moll’s Home corner, Palmerston road, and supplied with hose reel, etc., and that hose and hydrant boxes be erected at section 75 Kliiti, corner of Riawiri and H'urunui streets, and at Morrell's corner, What'anptiko, enoli capable of lidding 50 feet length of hose, hydrant ami branches.”
A runaway of a somewhat unique cilia racier took place shortly before 2 o’clock yesterday. A horse attached to a light g'ig had been, left standing tin Upper Gladstone road when it bolted.""lt turned into Peel street and made ■ for the Tarulieru bridge. Mr 51. 51ahony was tin his express on the swing portion of film bridge when tho runaway hove in eight, and lie iliesb managed to. get off the bridge in time to avoid a had smash-dp. The runaway /got safely across the bridge, and increased the ivaco going down the slope from the bridge. The frightened -horse turned iiito Ormond road, and, the corner being taken sharply, one of' the wheels ran up the hank beside .the road, and the trap capsized. In some miraculous fashion the career of the animal was not checked, and the trap was drawn ia hundred yards lying on one of the wheels; but this mode' of progression was taxing oil the horse and it soon pulled up. After this hard treatment, however, the trap was practically uninjured.
