BANKRUPT IN TROUBLE.
FOR FAILING TO KEEP PROPER RECORDS. Press Association. YVELLINGTON, Nov. 27. At the Supremo Court to-day YVilliam Goo. Tustin, for many years in business in YY’ellington ns a paintor and paperhangcr, who was adjudged bankrupt last May, was charged with having failed to keep proper books and with having contracted debts without reasonable expectation of being able to pay them. Tho Official Assignee deposed that he was unablo to ascertain accused's financial jiosition from the books supplied to him. At tho time of the bankruptcy the deficiency was between £4OOO and £SOOO. Accused, in a statement to tlio Court, denied any intent to defraud. Ho had had heavy losses on contracts, but had always believed ho could overcome ills financial troubles. His losses were partly caused by haying to pay 11s and 12s per day to workers not worth more than 5s 6d or 6s. YVhatevcr the outcome of tlieso proceedings he would not rest until lig had paid twenty shillings in the £l. Tho jury found ..accused guilty, but expressed tho opinion that ho had no intention to defraud. Sentence was deferred, pending a decision by tlie Court oi Appeal on certain law points. f . Tustin was allowed bail, himself in £SO and one surety of £SO.
