[Correspondence on public matters is welcomed at all times, but it must bo distinctly understood that this journal is in no way associated with the opinions of its correspondents.]

OUR PARLIAAIENTARY REPRESENTATIVES. [TO THE EdITOB.] Sir, —Your truthful but rathor mild leader in Alonday’s Times fairly criticises the actions of our representatives, and would assuredly apply to our local member. Our chosen representative, Air. Carroll, in accordance with his usual taihoa policy, has waited till the end of the session to pass his Native Land Bill, and then pushes it through against the inclination and wishes of the Natives, whom it affects, thereby adding to his already established modes of Alaori landlordism. Then there -is Air. Carroll’s appointed Councillor. He clears home to look after his private interests, “leaving the country’s affairs to take care of themselves,” as you truly stated, although getting paid for the entire session. This very Councillor has on several occasions left his country’s work and visited Gisborne to see after his private matters, and make us believe ho was only attending meetings of local bodies. Then there is Air. Ngata, a local Alaori representative, who has been chosen with Sir Robert Stout on a farcical commission to transact business which the Native Alinister neglects, and which the country has to pay for. Then comes Air. AVi Pero, Air Carroll’s chosen,.whose speeches in the House according to Hansard are certainly not what one expects from an AI.L.A. These are the individuals representing Poverty Bay. Is it in any way surprising to hear our citizens cry out: AVho is representing the Pakelia? Truly might the Europeans in Poverty Bay say, “Save. us from my friends and representatives.”—l am, etc.

“RATEPAYER.’ Gisborne, Nov. 26.
