Rigg pointed out that tlio salaries of tho Clerk and Assistant-Clerk of the Houso of Representatives woro to bo increased.’ Something should bo done, lie said, to increaso the salaries of officers of tho Legislative Council. Tho Attornoy-Genoral said tho differences pointed out in salaries ot legislative officers wero new to him, and in order that ho might consult' iiis colleagues ho would move to report progress on tho Bill when it reached tlio committee st-ago. The second reading was agreed to, and at a lator stage progress was reported. PUBLIC TRUSTEE.
The Public Trust Olfico Act Amendment- Bill (passed tho House on July 17tli and sinco re-drafted by tlio Statutes Revision Committee) was committed. It had boen made more workable in committee, and an amendment was introduced preventing tho Public Trusteo from leasing any property left by an absentee for a longer term than 12 years. Tho Bill was read a third time and passed.
