BOOKMAKERS IMPRISONED. Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov 13. Twenty-six bookmakers were before the Court to-day, charged with trespassing on the Riccarton racecourse during the C.J.C. metropolitan meeting. Fourteen were sentenced to two months’ imprisonment, four to one month, and seven wore fined £lO each, while one ease was aujourned.
EXPLOSION IN A STRONG ROOM. A CLERK RECEIVES A SHOCK. Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 13. Shortly after 9 o’clock this morning one of the clerks engaged by Messrs Izard and Loughnan, solicitors, opened t'ho strong room door and struck a match to light the gas iet inside the room. An explosion followed, and a broad slicot of flame shot out, singeing tho young man’s faco and clothing,. and setting fire to the documents. Beyond tho burning of some papers, howover, the fire was extinguished without serious damage.
