TXJRANGANTJI OLTJB. The opening day of the Turanganui Club was held yesterday in tno presence of a large and representative •fathering of bowlers generally and the public. Mr. Alatthewson, President, formally declared the green open by throwing the jack. In tlie course of Ilia remarks, ho stated that, owing to the water-supply being still unavailable tho green was not all that could bo wished for, yet lie trusted that all tho players would have 'an enjoyable afternoon. He also referred to tho tournament to bo held in Auckland this season, and hoped that two teams would bo sent, from Ins club. Mr. Mntthowson concluded Ins remarks, and presented Uxo medals for tho Handicap Pours won last year bv Martin (skip). Hallam, McSkimming, and McConnell. Air. Mai tin brieilv returned thanks, and tlio games were proceeded with. Teams ueie picked representing tlio President and Vice-President, and an exceedingly close finish .resulted in tho 1 resident s side being victorious bv tho narrow margin of one point. Pettie, President of tlio Gisborne Club, thanked tho Turanganui members for the pleasant at ternoon spent. They bad enjoyed themselves thoroughly. Though the green Was not all that was to be wished yet it onlv required time and attention to make it a perfect green, for it had the necessary foundation. In tlio course of a short time they could with confidence invito the Dominion teams to play on their green. Ho considered the club had the makings of a number of first-class players, who could hold their own with any team in the Dominion. He wished the club every prosperity. Air. Alatthewson, replying, thanked Air. Pettie for Ills expressions. They were only a new club, land knew that a. green took time to make. Ho spoke of tho harmony existing between the two clubs, and referred to a match to be played on Monday next at the Gisborne green. He hoped the good feeling would always continue.
GISBORNE CLUB.
