Meanwhile teas are being temporarily packed in AVellington ami distributed to various agencies throughout the Dominion. In New Zealand, one suitable centre will, it .is understood, be fixed upon for the establishment of an up-to-date factory for the packing of teas. The following prisoners, who had pleaded guilty in the lower Court, were sentenced this morning: William Henry Whitley, thefts of bicycles, six months James McCarthy, thefts of portmanteaux at railway station, twelve months; Harry Lionel Eddie, forgery, six months; William Smith, hrciiking and entering, six months. A special meeting of .the Borough Council was held last night- to consider the reports of Messrs Rocthfort and Rogers on the system of Hastings seweu.ige and the proposed extension. It was resolved to ask the Public’ Health Department .if it would send an engineer to Hastings to advise the Council as to the advisability of admitting either of tire reports.' Mr W. F. Massey, leader of the Opposition, who has been the guest of Sir Wm. Russell, returned to Wellington this morning, delighted with his visit, the prosperous appearance of the province, and the progress apparent here. WELLINGTON.
The Minister of Agriculture Iras selected tiro first batch of dairy inspectors, as follows: —W. J. Dunlop, Christchurch; F. Murray, Woodviile; AY. O. Twentyman. Forty Mile Bush district; Wan. Lang, Otahuhu, Auckland; J. P. Finlay, South Canterbury; J. AV. Smith, Oumaru; H. White, of Manutahi, Taranaki; H. A. AVaird, of Levin; Jas. Johnston, of Inglewood, Taranaki; E. S. AAT-ight, Blenheim; AV. Stable, of Waiwera, J. R. AV.vbourn and R. Crockett, two officers of the Department. Probably thirty inspectors in all will be appointed. The -thirteen . selected were chosen from 191 applicants.
