MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
WOMEN MEMBERS. United Press Association—Copyright LONDON, Nov. 1. Unionists won upwards of 135 seats in the English and Welsh municipal elections. A great majority of their victories were in boroughs which electecd Liberal members, to the House of Commons. The Liberals won 22 seats, the Labor candidates 22, Independents 4, Socialists 5. The Socialists seeking re-election to four boroughs were ousted, and others severely defeated in 27, where they attempted to displace councillors seeking re-election. Mrs Doctor Garrett Anderson and live other ladies have been elected municipal councillors. The Daily Chronicle says the primary cause of Unionists victories at the municipal elections was. the fear of Socialists, and secondarily, the Anglicans and Roman Catholics assailing the Liberals. It would not be a bad thing for Liberalism if Socialists were to continue their tshmaelito tactics, indiscriminately attacking 1)0 th practical parties, as the results at Huddersfield .and elsewhere proved. The Chronicle adds that the friendship of the Socialists is more dangerous to Liberalism than their hostility.
