Their Vigilance Committee submitted an exhaustive review touching tho position of the trade in every State, m which it as stated : “It is only too apparent that the enemies of our _ industry have more than held their own ill the struggles of the past year. “ALABAMA.—Our predictions have been only too literally fulfilled. The Legislature has passed, and the Governor has signed a County Option Bill.” . . “COLORADO.—The Legislature tins passed a Local Option law. We tried our best to defeat the movsuro. hut were handicapped by having a Methodist preacher for Governor, backed un by woman slidrage.” “DELAWARE.—The Legislature has passed a Bill providing for a special election on the question or license or no license, to be held throughout the State in November next, and Governor Lee lias signed ‘^“KENTUCKY.—Tho high tidal wave of anti-saloon fnnatacism, which has recently swept the South, has made itself felt here. At present there are 32 ‘wet’ counties and 87 ‘dry’ counties, a gain of 25 counties for tho Prohibitionists.” “NORTH DAKOTA.—The Legislature has passed an extraordinary Bill, which forbids soliciting for the sale of intoxicating liquors. This law goes into effect on July Ist, 1907, and as a consequence the brewers doing business in the State will have to withdraw their agents.” “OHIO.—It is not to he disputed that the area of ‘dry’ territory in this State is stcndily on the increase. “OKLAHOMA. —The framers of Oklahoma’s constitution have provided for Prohibition pure and simple without resource or remedy. “TENNESSEE. —Prohibition has made its master stroke in this State, and the people seem to have temporarily gono daft.” “TEXAS.—Tlieso figures indicate the progress of Local Option in this State. Under Local Option there are now 152 ‘dry’ counties out of 230.” “VIRGINIA AND NORTH CAROLINA. —In these two States _ the Temperance wave has made itself feil.t strongly. The good Old days of distilling and blockading seem to have gone for ever.” The 12th annual gathering of the National Wholesale Liquor Dealers’ Association of America also- met at Atlantic City, U.S.A., two weeks after the Brewers’ Association. The President, Air. Taylor, said :—“During the past twelve months the Prohibitionists have made grave inroads on our business. Especially is this true in the South, and unless wo work with more energy and determination to stop this Itulal wave, every State in the South will be closed to us.” C.P.
